Tasting Notes: The Leonardo Bussoletti Grechetto Colle Ozio uses the Grechetto di Todi and Grechetto di Orvieto biotypes in a 50/50 blend. Lush and elegant, this crisp, medium-bodied white wine is fresh and savory, with pear, mint, and a delicate white pepper note. This would be perfect with roast chicken, pork, or salmon, and represents one of the best values in Italian white wine today.
Estate History: The wines of Leonardo Bussoletti are a revelation. Leonardo began his estate in 2004 in Umbria. His intention was to elevate local grapes while using organic methods. For the red wines, only the Ciliegiolo grape is planted, with the goal of raising it from obscurity to greatness. Previously Ciliegiolo was mainly used as a blending grape, most famously in Chianti, where it added lift and brightness to those wines. In Umbria it has an earthy charm, and without a doubt, Leonardo has been able to make some of the tastiest, and most complex Ciliegiolo we have ever tasted. For the white wines, Leonardo focuses mainly on two local biotypes of Grechetto, di Todi and di Orvieto. The whites are some of the most elegant, affordable, and off-the-radar gems of the wine shop.
