Tasting Notes: The Barberani Orvieto Classico Superiore Castagnolo is a blend of local grapes Grechetto and Trebbiano, opens with aromatic notes of green apple and almond. The round palate offers juicy white peach and ripe Bartlett pear accented hints of almonds. Moderate acidity gives it a clean finish. An easy-drinking wine, best suited as an aperitivo, but also friendly enough for seafood appetizers, grilled fish, or white meat.
Estate History: Luigi and Giovanna Barberani began making wine in 1961 near Lake Corbara in Umbria. Now in the capable hands of Luigi’s son Niccolò are 55 hectares of organic vineyards producing a range of unique, classic, and unmatched Umbrian wines. Fully organic since the 1980’s, long before it was fashionable, Barberani has always sought out a unique approach to making wine.
