Tasting Notes: The Vino di Anna Palmentino Rosso is a blend of cuvées of organic Nerello Mascalese grapes, from terraced vineyards located high up on the north side of Etna, in Sicily. These old vines are co-planted with small quantities of Nerello Cappuccio, Grenache and with some indigenous white varieties; Grecanico, Catarratto and Minella Bianca. 50% of the wine was produced in a traditional Etnean building used for the winemaking. The fermenting must was left in contact with the skins only for a short period of time, 5 days, during which it was pressed several times with the hands and feet. 30% of the wine was, however, produced in a Georgian qvevri, with a maceration on the skins for a month. Finally, the remaining 20% of the blend is a wine that has been fermented and aged in a large used oak barrel. All wines were subjected to spontaneous alcoholic fermentation, by indigenous yeasts and were left on fine lees for 12 months before blending. Bright crimson red, this wine has attractive aromas of red cherry and wild strawberry. On the palate it is dry, rich in balanced fruity aromas with juicy and ripe tannins and afresh acidity.
