Tasting Notes: The Fessina Erse Etna Rosso is a throwback to old Etna, where indigenous red and white grapes were vinified together, giving a feminine complexity. Round and spicy with austere and soft tannins, Erse opens to the nose with hints of ink and small red fruit, graphite, black pepper, mineral with an elegant, floral and excellent drinking presence.
Estate History: The Tenuta di Fessina winery is the work of Silvia Maestrelli who moved from Milan to Sicily in 2006. She fell in love with Etna and the wines there and began the hard work of becoming one of the first women to open a winery on the volcano. Being a pioneer wasn’t enough for Silvia, she also wanted to protect the history and culture of Mt. Etna, utilizing old vines, ancient techniques and crafting uniquely feminine wines from the vibrant, volcanic soils.
