Tasting Notes: This Barbera-based red from the Nizza DOCG exhibits a deep ruby color with distinct purple reflections. The aromatic profile is defined by an intense bouquet of ripe red and black fruits, notably cherry, raspberry, and blueberry, layered with delicate floral hints of violet and savory undertones of tobacco and sweet spice. On the palate, the wine is structured and full-bodied, showcasing a vibrant energy and a remarkable tension that keeps the fruit profile fresh and focused. Silky, round tannins contribute to a velvety mouthfeel, while the finish is persistent and clean, often revealing a subtle mineral saltiness derived from the region’s calcareous soils.
Estate History: Founded in 2017, Sette is the collaborative project of two longtime friends, enologist Gian Luca Colombo and wine trade professional Gino Della Porta. The estate comprises 5.8 hectares on a single hill in Bricco di Nizza, where the duo immediately transitioned the land from industrial farming to organic and biodynamic viticulture to restore soil health. The vineyards feature a diverse range of vine ages, including prized plots planted as early as 1940, growing in a unique terroir of chalky marl and sandstone. Their minimalist winemaking philosophy focuses on transparency and purity, utilizing traditional techniques like spontaneous fermentation and submerged cap maceration alongside modern aging vessels such as concrete and amphora.
