Tasting Notes: The G.D. Vajra Barbera d'Alba is a vibrant, deep purple wine that offers an intensely aromatic experience. The nose bursts with fresh blackberries, dark cherry, spices, and violet notes, complemented by hints of marzipan and crushed stones. The palate is fragrant and bright, characterized by elegant, high acidity and flavors of fresh strawberries, plums, and black currants. This wine presents a beautifully layered and complex texture with a mineral-driven, long finish, balancing power with grace.
Estate History: The G.D. Vajra estate was founded in 1972 by Aldo Vajra in Vergne, the highest village in the Barolo commune. The initials G.D. stand for Giuseppe Domenico, Aldo's father, who signed the initial registration documents because Aldo was a minor at the time. Aldo was a pioneer of organic farming in Piedmont, committing the estate to organic and sustainable practices since 1971, a revolutionary move at the time. Today, Aldo and his wife Milena are joined by their children Giuseppe, Francesca, and Isidoro, who continue the family's philosophy of producing elegant, traditional wines that express the unique high-altitude terroir of their vineyards.
