Tasting Notes: Founded by great-great grandfather Teobaldo Prandi, the Prandi estate had been passed, as was tradition, from father to son and father to son–until the death of grandfather Massimo Prandi. His death sent the talisman to his uncle and the family oenologist, Giuseppe Prandi. Giuseppe stewarded the lands, but just as Barolo strode into international markets, he declined to bottle the family’s wines. 36 years passed without the Prandi wines–until now. Giuseppe has trained his young niece, Cristina Marello Prandi (born in just 1998!), as the estate’s new torch-bearer. Under her enthusiastic direction, the estate is crafting the Nebbiolo of tomorrow. Her Langhe Nebbiolo–aged in a mix of cement and old barrels–blends youthful drinkability with serious structure, depth, and ambition.
Estate History: The Prandi family's winemaking history dates back to 1864, when Teobaldo Prandi founded his winery in Piazza Cabutto, in the heart of Barolo. For generations, the estate was passed down according to tradition—always to the eldest son—ensuring the continuity of the family’s craft.
In 1987, following the passing of Massimo Prandi, the responsibility fell to his son, Giuseppe Prandi. At the time, Giuseppe was living in England, pursuing his passion for art and painting, but he ultimately returned to Barolo to preserve the family’s winemaking heritage. However, in the years that followed, he ceased bottling wines, and with that, the Prandi name faded from the market.
Cristina began working alongside Giuseppe in 2015, learning the craft first hand. Determined to restore her family's legacy, she launched her own label in 2019, at just 20 years old, reviving the Prandi name and bringing it into a new era of Barolo winemaking.
