Tasting Notes: The Sergio Drago Terre Siciliane Rosso is a medium-bodied blend of Nero d’Avola and Syrah fermented and aged in stainless steel for 5 months. This is a beautiful combination of the soft and persuasive tannin of Syrah paired with the freshness of Nero d’Avola. Aromatics of bright, ripe red fruits with a touch of earthiness and a bit of saline from the sea. On the palate it is fresh and juicy with silky smooth tannins that complement the freshness of the acidity brought by the ripe berry flavors. Finishes with just a touch minerality.
Estate History: Alcamo, situated between Marsala and Palermo, is where Sergio Drago produces wines completely organically, while not certified, his ethos is clear. No intervention in the vineyard or the cellar. Sergio produces four wines from vines that sit on extremely calcareous soil. Production is very small and he wants to keep it that way, limiting production to 4,000 bottles total.
