Tasting Notes: From a cooler vintage the 2012 expresses a fresher rendenation of this wine with notes of black cherry, dried flower, bay leaf and dark chocolate. The acidity is prominent but perfectly balanced.
Estate History: In 1974, the Migliorini’s, already highly successful owners of a Michelin-starred restaurant, purchased a farmhouse in the hills of Monforte d’Alba and tried their hands at winemaking. Now with over 50 hectares of land they have captured not only the possibilities of the terroir in the Langhe, but also have honed a unique style that is always innovating.
Though they pride themselves on their innovation, their philosophies have remained steadfast-- low intervention without a compromise of their particular style. The formation of this mindset began with the introduction of small oak barrels back in the 70s. By 1982 all red wine was produced with the barrels, and thus a low intervention in the vineyards still yielded a wine that was undeniably crafted by the hands of the Migliorini’s.
It began in the 70s with Valentino Migliorini, but operations have since passed on to his son Rodolfo who shares his father’s passion for innovation and hands-off farming without any compromise of their unique family vision of the Langhe.
The Barolo Bricco San Pietro Vigna d'la Roul from Podere Rocche dei Manzoni is crafted from grapes grown on the Bricco San Pietro in Monforte d'Alba. The wine is named after the oak tree, known as the "roul," situated in the middle of the vineyard. This is the winery's most robust red wine, undergoing three years of aging in barriques followed by an additional year of bottle aging.
