Tasting Notes: Wine Lovers love Nebbiolo wine, usually associated with famous villages of Piemonte in Northern Italy. However, the Nino Negri Sfursat di Valtellina is a unique version of Nebbiolo wine that comes from the wine region of Valtellina in Lombardy. Made from 100% Nebbiolo grape (a.k.a. Chiavennasca as it is called locally), the grapes are meticulously handpicked and dried for 3 months on reed mats (The same method utilized in the making of Amarone). They also endure long skin contact, and age for an additional 2 years in French oak barrels. The results are a concentrated display of both power and complexity, and yet, elegant in style. Notes of spicy clove, pepper, cinnamon and licorice abound. It’s like crossing a Barolo with an Amarone della Valpolicella. This bottle makes for a great gift for those whose wine cellars are already filled with Brunello’s, Barolos and Amarone. It’s rare, and one of a kind! Pairs exceptionally well with steaks, stews, ribs, or with a semi pungent cheese such as Taleggio (Also from Lombardy).
