Estate History: The Le Piane estate is notable for its role in the revival of the historic Boca wine region in Northern Piedmont, which was nearly abandoned by the late 1980s due to industrialization. Swiss wine importer Christoph Künzli discovered the area and met Antonio Cerri, the last remaining local winemaker, whose elegant, traditional wines inspired Künzli to save the appellation from extinction. After Cerri's death in 1997, Künzli purchased the vineyards and cellars, and through nearly 90 separate real estate transactions, pieced together the current 8-hectare property. The winery maintains traditional and organic practices, focusing on local grape varieties like Nebbiolo, Croatina, and Vespolina to produce highly regarded, age-worthy wines that reflect the unique volcanic soil and alpine climate of Boca.
