Tasting Notes: One of the classic DOC’s Gutturnio is a blend of Barbera and Bonarda and La Tosa’s Gutturnio is a beautiful expression of both terroir and expertise in the cellar. Notes of black currant, spices, forest floor and tobacco standout while still possessing an excellent balance between acidity and subtle tannins.
Estate History: In this tale of passion and perseverance, we follow the journey of two brothers from Milan who initially set out on the path of medicine, only to find their true calling in the world of winemaking.
Stefano's love for wine began unexpectedly at the tender age of seventeen when he took his first sommelier course in 1978. Meanwhile, in the mid-seventies, their family acquired a holiday home in their mother’s village, Vigolzone. It was here that Ferruccio discovered his affinity for country life, which soon led to the purchase of a nearby farmhouse, La Tosa, in 1980. By 1984, the brothers made the bold decision to devote themselves entirely to winemaking, moving permanently to La Tosa.
La Tosa is situated on a moderately fertile and wooded plateau between the Val Nure to the east and the Val Trebbia to the west. This unique terroir, stretching five kilometers and sloping from 300 to 150 meters in altitude, is characterized by Antique Red Soils found in the Piacenza and Parma regions.
Since 2015, Stefano and Ferruccio have embraced organic viticulture, driven by a deep respect for nature. They view winemaking as an interpretive art, believing that each grape's essence is a gift from nature, one that they carefully nurture without altering its core character. Their methods are tailored to each grape variety.
