Tasting Notes: The name and sketch on the label of the Fabio Zambolin Coste della Sesia Rosso Feldo are in honor of Fabio’s grandfather, Feldo, which is a blend of the oldest vines in the vineyard. 70-year-old vines on a single acre called La Vignetta, blended with 50% Nebbiolo, 25% Croatina and 25% Vespolina. La Vignetta is composed of sandy soil with about 25% clay and limestone which is a typical geological formation in this area and found often in the Langhe region. The grapes are all thrown into the fermentation vat together for more than three weeks, then pressed and raised in old 225-liter barrels for a year. Fabio uses sulfites sparingly, only administered at bottling and with 30ppm in total. Feldo has a fuller mouth-feel with an underlying rustic feel. Notes of dried cherry dominate but is followed by underlying flavors of clove, anise, and black truffle with a beautiful robe of tannins.

Estate History: Fabio Zambolin began his career after inheriting the vineyard of his grandparents and transformed their old garage into his winery. It all began in 2010 with a single parcel that he worked organically. This land sits within the DOC appellation of Lessona however, the cantina is just ten meters outside of the DOC zone (right next to the vineyards) and an archaic law enforce his label to be under Costa della Sesia, a generic term for regional Northern Piedmont wines in this area. Fabio is also recognized for his work in the vineyards of Le Pianelle winery where he worked alongside famed winegrower Cristiano Garella.
