Tasting Notes: The Cavallotto Langhe Freisa displays a deep ruby color and offers an intense bouquet of ripe red fruits, especially black cherries, strawberries, and blackberries, with underlying floral notes of violet and hints of spice. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, well-structured, and complex, featuring lively acidity and rich, chalky tannins that lend a firm grip to the finish. Notes of mocha, wet stone, and a subtle savory or leathery character add complexity to the persistent, dry finish.
Estate History: The Cavallotto estate dates back to 1928, when Giacomo Cavallotto acquired the property in the Bricco Boschis area of Castiglione Falletto, Piedmont. However, the family were one of the first in the region to begin estate vinification and bottling under their own label, a practice initiated by the brothers Olivio and Gildo in 1948. Today, the fifth generation, represented by Alfio, Giuseppe, and Laura, continues to manage the 25-hectare estate (mostly within the historic Bricco Boschis cru) with a "contemporary traditionalist" philosophy, employing organic farming practices and aging their wines in large Slavonian oak botti to produce age-worthy, site-specific wines.
