Tasting Notes: The Cataldo Calabretta Ciro Rosso Classico Superiore has the brickish red color in the glass that is a hallmark of Gaglioppo. Rustic, earthy aromas of dried cherry and oregano waft from the glass. The palate has a touch of austerity, then the fruit emerges, dreid prunes, figs, with notes of leather and tobacco.
Estate History: Cataldo Calabretta began bottling his wine with the 2012 vintage. Working plots of mostly Gaglioppo vines that range from 10 to 40 years old, there are also small amounts of Grenache, Ansonica, Malvasia and Greco Bianco. Cataldo is from a family of grape growers, and his vineyards are now certified organic.
