Tasting Notes: The 2012 Castello dei Rampolla Vigna d'Alceo delivers a complex bouquet of ripe black cherry, cassis, and raspberry fruit, interwoven with sophisticated notes of leather, cedar, tilled earth, and violet. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and well-structured, showcasing elegant and fluid tannins that frame a dense core of mineral-laced dark fruits. The finish is remarkably long and balanced, promising further development with age while offering immense pleasure in its current mature state.
Estate History: Located in the heart of the Chianti Classico region in Panzano, Tuscany, the Castello dei Rampolla estate has been producing wine since the 18th century, but it gained modern prominence under the ownership of the late Alceo di Napoli. It was Alceo and his son Luca who revolutionized the property starting in the 1970s, pioneering the use of Cabernet Sauvignon in the area and contributing significantly to the rise of Super Tuscans. Today, the estate is managed by Alceo’s children, Luca and Maurizia, who have transitioned the vineyards to biodynamic farming practices, focusing on sustainability and expressing the unique terroir of their Conca d'Oro vineyards.
