Tasting Notes: The Antonella Corda Vermentino Amphora Ziru uses Amphora clay vessels and extended time of must in contact with the grape skins (up to a month) to add complex flavors and aromas and mellow the natural salinity of Vermentino. Macerated stonerfruit flavors of peach along with apple cidar and white flowers mingle with hints of pineapple, mint and other dried herbs. The palate is dry, round but with some acidity and a hint of lingering sea air.
Estate History: Nestled in the southern area of Sardegna, Antonella Corda established her own winery in 2010 with vineyards inherited by her grandfather, the Sardinian wine legend Antonio Argiolas. After graduating from the university of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Antonella took control of the 15 hectares of vines and began cultivating only indigenous varietals such as Cannonau, Vermentino and Nuragus. The estate has always worked with sustainable irrigation and other organic tactics but officially earned an organic certification in 2021. One of the specialty grapes grown and produced by Antonella is the Nuragus di Cagliari. Nuragus grows only in the southern town and the former capital kingdom of Sardegna, Cagliari, and is beloved by Sardinian growers for having such adaptability to different terrains. Only a handful of producers grow Nuragus and an even smaller amount of it is exported into the U.S.
