Tasting Notes: ViCaRa's Grignolino Uccelletta is sourced from the certified organic 1.3 hectare "Bricco dell Uccelletta" vineyard. This is serious Grignolino, aged for two years in used Austrian oak barrels. Infamously pale in color but rich in tannins, Grignolino is given the priority treatment that is almost solely given to Nebbiolo elsewhere in Piemonte. The color is deep red with the typical orange reflections of Grignolino and accompanied by a nose of spicy and balsamic aromas. On the palate, it is dry with silky soft tannins and a persistent finish.
Estate History: ViCaRa began almost 40 years ago, the "pipe dream" of three childhood friends with the surnames of Visconti, Cassinis and Ravizza (Vi-Ca-Ra). Here, they are very specialized in Grignolino, dedicating more than half of their vineyard area to this notoriously difficult and "ornery" variety. Giuseppe Visconti, son of one of the founders, has brought this dream to its full realization. He was instrumental in converting to organic viticulture and the formation of Monferace, an alliance of producers dedicated to raising the quality and potential of Grignolino del Monferrato Casalese.T
