Tasting Notes: The Terrazzi Valtellina Superiore Alti Sassella is fermented in stainless steel tanks and then aged in oak barrels for up to 18 months, followed by an additional period of aging in the bottle. The result is a complex and elegant wine with a deep ruby color and an intense aroma of red fruit, such as cherry and raspberry, along with notes of spice, leather, and tobacco. On the palate, Terrazzi Valtellina Superiore Alti Sassella is full-bodied and structured, with firm tannins and a good balance of acidity and fruitiness. The wine has a long, persistent finish that reveals more of its complexity and elegance.

Estate History: Terrazzi is a family-owned winery located in the Valtellina Superiore DOCG region of Lombardy, Italy. The winery was founded in 1886 by Francesco Terrazzi, and has been passed down through generations of the family. The winery focuses on producing high-quality wines from the Nebbiolo grape variety, known locally as Chiavennasca, which is grown on the steep, terraced slopes of the Valtellina region. The winery's vineyards are located at altitudes of up to 800 meters above sea level, and the grapes are harvested by hand to ensure the highest quality.
Terrazzi produces a range of wines, including reds, whites, and rosés, but is particularly known for its Valtellina Superiore wines, which are made from Nebbiolo grapes grown in the subzones of Sassella, Grumello, and Inferno. These wines are aged in oak barrels and bottle-aged before release, resulting in complex and elegant wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Valtellina region.
In addition to its focus on high-quality winemaking, Terrazzi is also committed to sustainable agriculture and environmentally-friendly practices. The winery uses organic and biodynamic methods in its vineyards, and takes measures to conserve water and reduce its carbon footprint.
