Tasting Notes: Third generation winemaker Federico Scarzello is among Piedmont’s brightest rising stars. His Barolo del Comune di Barolo is vinified for immediate enjoyment, while still following Scarzello’s fastidiously traditional winemaking tenets. Both the maceration and aging are extended, like all Scarzello’s wines, but its more delicate tannins make this wine far more approachable in its youth. With intensely concentrated fruit, an elegant floral nose, and subtle whiffs of leather and tar, this Barolo is delicious now, but can age for years to come.
