Tasting Notes: Grown on calcareous clay soils close to the Rocche, this elegant "Faset" Barbaresco DOCG is fermented with indigenous yeasts. The wine macerates following the ancient submerged cap technique, lasting 60 to 70 days. The wines is then aged in neutral oak and concrete vats for five years.
Estate Notes: With a family history that dates back to the very beginning of Barbaresco in 1860, Roagna is synonymous with quality and finesse. They began making Barolo in 1990, updating the winery to Castiglione Falletto in 2010. They focus on harvesting each vineyard when it reaches perfect physiological maturity and harvest by hand.
The 2016 Barbaresco Faset gives the impression of being the most accessible of the 2016 Barbarescos, but only in relative terms, as it, too, is pretty tannic. Kirsch, sweet tobacco, cedar, dried flowers and anise open gradually over time. The Faset requires patience, but it should open a bit earlier than the rest of the 2016s.
