Tasting Notes: Mondoca, “sorì of the afternoon” (in Piemontese, sorì means “sunny vineyards”), has south and southwest exposure and experiences the highest temperatures of all the vineyards in Barolo. The Oddero Barolo Vigna Mondoca has a mellow and elegant bouquet with scents of berries and natural balsamic notes, Mediterranean woodlands and dried roses steeped in tar. Well-balanced on the palate with an elegant and assertive tannic texture, and a long and complex finish.
Estate History: The Oddero family has been present in the territory of La Morra since at least the 18th century. Giovanni Battista Oddero and his sons Lorenzo and Luigi began to vinify grapes in the township of La Morra between the 18th and 19th centuries. It is through their efforts that Oddero wines were introduced to the rest of the world. The history of the winery today is tied to that of Giacomo Oddero, of the current Oddero generation. Under Giacomo’s guidance, Poderi e Cantine Oddero took on its current productive configuration, extending vineyard property, increasing bottle production, and upholding a high quality that today is recognized worldwide.
