Tasting Notes: The I Cacciagalli Zagreo is a clean, lush and rich wine with fleshy navel orange, ripe apricots, green apple and pear. It’s flinty, toasty and herbal with a silky mouth feel. Made from the native white grape Fiano, famous for the wine Fiano di Avellino, which was down to 10 acres in 1978. Today it is one of Italy’s best white grape varieties and is planted all over the world. The romans called Campania “Campania Felix” (the fortunate country) because it is blessed with such fertile volcanic soil. The farmers take advantage of this fertile land and grow vegetables between rows of fruit and olive trees where they harvest three crops yearly from the same land in abundant amounts.
Diana Iannaccone believes the use of terra-cotta aging vessels called Anfora is the way for the wines to retain their identity and connection with the soil. People use Anfora because it imparts no flavor on the wine. The fiano grapes for the Zagreo are hand harvested, fermented with only local yeasts and aged on the skins in amphora. Diana also states that since she uses no additives in the cellar she is able to strictly limit the use of sulphur.

Estate History: Diana Iannaccone biodynamically farms 6 acres of vines and 20 acres of hazelnut, chestnut and olives trees located on the foot of the Roccamonfina volcano in the province of Caserta. This land called “I Cacciagalli”, the rooster catchers, have stayed in Diana’s family for generations and today remains the name of her winery.

It’s with great pleasure to present to you one of Italy’s greatest viticultural success stories.
