Tasting Notes: The Alzero was designed by Quintarelli’s wife, and, in life, was her favorite wine to drink. This is a Venetian love letter to Bordeaux: equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and a healthy splash of Merlot undergo Veneto’s apassimento drying process, spending months aging on traditional rush mats and in wooden boxes. The grapes then undergo a long, slow fermentation. Afterwards, the wine is racked into French oak barrels, where they age for two years before being transferred into botti for another four years of aging. This wine is powerful, bold, and insanely complex. Rich flavors of raisin, poached fig, fennel, espresso, smoke, meat, and smoke only expand in the glass.
