Tasting notes: Sciaglin is a unique grape variety that expresses notes of granny smith apple, dried honey, sea-salt, and wet stone. The wine is electric with a great acidity that drives the wine.
Estate History: Emilio Bulfon is a famed local vintner in the region of Friuli known for his rediscovery of many ancient grape varieties. These grapes were nearly lost to undergrowth and human neglect around 35 years ago in the foothills near Pordenone, about an hour and a half northeast of Verona. This area has a long history of winemaking, and Bulfon's unique passion revived these varieties. He treated them with the respect given to archaeological finds and replanted them with advice from local experts. Historical records show these grapes have existed in the region for at least two or three centuries. On May 6, 1991, a decree signed by the Minister of Agriculture and Forests included the Forgiarìn, Piculìt Neri, Sciaglìn, and Ucelùt varieties in the National Catalog of Vines.
Emilio’s son Lorenzo now continues the legacy and the preservation of these ancient native grapes.
