Tasting Notes: Bellone is the "working class" grape of this southern corner of Lazio. Cincinnato's speaks with a mineral character often not seen at this price point, sourced from certified organic volcanic holdings high above the flat plains of Latina. Vinified entirely in stainless steel, the purity of the varietal is offered the opportunity to express itself.
Estate History: Cincinnato was founded in 1947 in the low volcanic hills south of Rome in the town of Cori. Here, the hills protect the vineyards from cooling sea breezes blowing across a narrow band of coastal plains. The co-operative’s membership was restricted to maintain a relatively small size, covering almost 270 hectares of vines farmed by 105 members. Recently, they launched the “Quality Project,” where their agronomists analyzed the vineyards, soils, exposures, vine age, and more, finding that 80 hectares were dedicated to superior grapes. These hectares are purposefully restricted in production to produce low, high-quality grapes.
