Tasting Notes: Named after the wind, Libici is a dialect for wind from Libya, Northern Africa, which they can really feel on their land. This is produced from the Magliocco Canino which expresses a unique flavor profile than typical reds of Calabria. Lighter in body but layered with notes of ripe red and black berries, spice, and dried floral and herbal tones. Well structured and not shy though the wine appears light and fresh the tannins and acidity are very much present and help lift the wine making it the perfect red for summer grilling.
Estate History: Tropea, near the Casa Comerci estate, is a beautiful and popular coastal tourist destination in Italy. Casa Comerci's vineyards, located 250 meters above sea level, offer stunning views of the sea and Aeolian islands, and are characterized by varied soils, climates, and coastlines. The winery is dedicated to reviving the historic Maglioco Canino grape. Casa Comerci was dedicated to rescue this grape variety from extinction and keeping it within their family’s tradition for 50+ years. The grape has a strong personality, with notable high acid, high tannin, and longevity in bottle. There’s an old tradition of saving a barrel of Maglioco Canino for a family’s daughter on her wedding day! The estate maintains organic and natural practices to ensure the land's health. The family, rooted in Calabria, began commercializing their wine in 1920, with Domenico reviving the winery in the 1990s, following his grandmother Rosina's legacy. Today, Rosa, the great-granddaughter of Rosina, manages various aspects of the winery, ensuring its traditions continue.
