Tasting Notes: The 1974 Cappellano Barolo is a rare glimpse into one of Serralunga's most storied cellars across five decades. Fully evolved, it offers a profound tapestry of dried roses, tar, old leather, tobacco, iron and truffle — the hallmarks of great aged Nebbiolo — with a finish of remarkable persistence that speaks to the depth of the vintage and the discipline of traditional winemaking.
Estate History: Cappellano is a historic family estate in Serralunga d'Alba with roots stretching back to the 19th century. Run by Augusto Cappellano and now carried forward by his son Teobaldo, the estate has remained fiercely devoted to traditional Barolo winemaking — long macerations, no temperature control, and large Slavonian oak casks, with no compromise on method or philosophy. Cappellano is perhaps most famous for its Barolo Pie Franco, made from a parcel of pre-phylloxera ungrafted vines, one of the rarest wines in Italy.
