Tasting Notes: The Caffo Vecchio Amaro del Capo Riserva 100 Anniversary is a limited release to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Distilleria Caffo (established 1915). Aged Italian brandy is infused with 29 fruits and botanicals and sweetened with sugar. The Brandy is aged between 30 and 50 years (will vary batch to batch; this first release contains brandy distilled in 1969). The brandy is distilled from grapes sourced in southern Italy; primarily Primitivo, Gaglioppo, Greco, Nero d’Avola, Nerello Mascalese, Sangiovese, and Aglianico. Notable botanicals include licorice, orange, tangerine, mint, anise, and chamomile. The final infusion is rested for 6 months in oak, ex-brandy barrels. White flowers, light clove, and bubble gum on the nose; bubble gum lingers on the palate and is joined by gentian and a flash of Red Hots; soft cinnamon lingers long on the finish. This celebratory expression reveals a fruitier, yet softer, side to Caffo’s classic amaro. Enjoy neat or lightly chilled as a refined digestivo.
