Tasting Notes: Chianti Classico “Le Fioraie” is a traditional blend of 90% Sangiovese with 10% Canaiolo, Ciliegiolo, and Colorino. The wine ferments spontaneously in stainless steel during a 3 ½ week maceration and spends two years aging in a combination of concrete tanks and previously used wooden casks. The wine boasts notes of turned earth, bright red fruits and a lively acidity.
Estate History: Located in the Castellina sub-zone within Chianti Classico, Tuscany, lies the Piemaggio estate. Dating back to the 11th century where a church (pieve), was known to rest on the property’s highest hilltop (maggiore) is what was the inspiration for the name of the estate. In those days, religious orders were known for tending to agricultural duties and handing down the custodial duties to each following generation. Today the property is covered with 12 hectares of Sangiovese, Canaiolo, and Colorino vines, with 10 of those hectares dedicated solely to Sangiovese vines. The estate is situated at altitudes between 380 and 480 meters above sea level. The combination of steady breezes and thick surrounding forests helps to mitigate drought and ensure a properly long growing season.
