Tasting Notes: The Nebbiolo fruit originates from MGA blocks in La Morra, cultivated organically on soils rich in Sant’Agata Fossili Marls, comprising 25% sand and 39% clay. With vines aged 20-60 years and situated at 513 meters elevation, the low-yielding vines experienced ideal conditions during the extended ripening period of the growing season. Notes of spice, red fruit, cherry, raspberry, anise, leather, and forest floor. Starts with a bit of intensity, remaining nervous and tight yet vibrant on the palate. Exhibits vigorous tannins, still gritty and crunchy, with a glorious length.
Estate History: A devoted and meticulous winemaker, Lapo Berti is driven by an unwavering passion for wine that ignited in his early twenties. His formative winemaking experiences ranged from Tuscany to Piedmont, where his affinity for Nebbiolo blossomed during his tenure at Enzo Boglietti. Along the way, he apprenticed with renowned names like Roberto Voerzio in Barolo, Nicolas Potel and Michel Picard in Burgundy, Cameron in Oregon, and Stephen Pannell in McLaren Vale.
After years of exploration, Lapo chose to anchor himself in Piedmont where he launched his eponymous wine project in 2012. Today, he leases premier Nebbiolo vineyards in La Morra's distinguished MGAs, meticulously tending to his vines with a winemaking ethos characterized by precision and respect for nature. Employing traditional techniques, Lapo opts for indigenous yeasts and eschews fining agents and filtration, minimizing sulfite usage to preserve the purity of his wines. His ultimate aspiration is to craft Nebbiolo in its most authentic expression, reflecting the distinctiveness of the grape, the terroir, and the vintage—a vision splendidly realized in his exceptional wines.
