Tasting Notes: Platinetti is the sole family in Ghemme to own and vinify a historical "Maggiorina" trained vineyard, where multiple vines are planted in the same hole to grow together. The family has tended this vineyard naturally since it was first planted in 1906, and yields are tiny. "Guido" is co fermented in a cement vat with no fining agents or sulfur dioxide. A balanced but straightforward wine, the nose shows aromas of flowers and small red fruits. A similar interplay that is found in the glass, where the palate is simultaneously smooth and vibrant.
Estate History: This small family estate, in its fourth generation of farming and making wine in Ghemme, is a true jewel of Alto Piedmontese wine culture. The Platinetti and Fontana families were cultivating vines here in the early 1900’s. World War I and World War II created a pause, but production resumed in the early 1970’s with new vigor. The current generation is led by Andrea Fontana.
