Tasting Notes: The Pian delle Vigne Rosso di Montalcino displays a vibrant ruby red color and offers an expressive bouquet of fresh red fruits, notably black cherries, wild strawberries, and blood oranges, accented by delicate hints of spice, cinnamon, and subtle floral notes like violets. On the palate, the wine is fresh, supple, and refined, with silky, well-integrated tannins and crisp acidity that lend a graceful and persistent finish. It is a medium-bodied, approachable Sangiovese that prioritizes drinkability and fragrant fruit character.
Estate History: The Pian delle Vigne estate, acquired by the Antinori family in 1995, is situated about six kilometers southwest of Montalcino, near a characteristic 19th-century railway station from which it takes its name. The Antinori family has a winemaking legacy spanning over six centuries, since 1385, and Pian delle Vigne represents their personal interpretation of the traditional and prestigious wines of Montalcino. The estate's philosophy for its Rosso and Brunello wines revolves around aging in large Slavonian oak casks to preserve the integrity and pure fruit expression of the Sangiovese grapes, rather than imparting heavy new oak flavors.
