Estate History: Founded in 1967 by Sergio Manetti, Montevertine began as a vacation retreat in Radda in Chianti before evolving into one of Italy’s most iconic wine estates. Manetti famously broke away from the Chianti Classico Chianti Classico DOCG regulations in the early 1980s to maintain the purity of his 100% Sangiovese wines, which at the time required the inclusion of white grapes. This bold move solidified Le Pergole Torte as the first monovarietal Sangiovese produced in the region. Today, the estate continues under the guidance of Sergio’s son, Martino Manetti, maintaining traditional winemaking methods and the legacy of using Alberto Manfredi’s unique lady-face illustrations for each vintage label.
