On the palate, the wine delivers an intense entry of juicy plum and tart red currant framed by fine-grained, powdery tannins and a deep mineral vein reminiscent of crushed stone. Estate History: Founded in 1975 by Roman lawyer Gabriele Mastrojanni, the estate sits in the southeastern sub-zone of Castelnuovo dell’Abate within the Montalcino municipality. He acquired the Loreto and San Pio properties, recognizing the exceptional potential of the local terroir and becoming a pioneer in this specific pocket of the region. The winery earned a stellar global reputation over the decades under the leadership of CEO Andrea Machetti and winemaker Maurizio Castelli. In 2008, the prominent Illy Group acquired the estate, providing resources to strengthen the brand while maintaining a dedication to low-intervention winemaking, biodynamic principles, and the absolute purity of the Sangiovese grape.
