Tasting Notes: The Manzone Giovanni Langhe Nebbiolo Il Crutin offers a vibrant and high-toned profile defined by crisp red fruits like wild strawberry and tart cherry. These primary notes are layered with delicate floral scents of rose petal and violet, alongside more grounded hints of white pepper and crushed stones. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and bright, featuring polished tannins that provide a firm yet accessible structure. The finish is remarkably clean and persistent, leaving lingering impressions of savory herbs and a distinct mineral freshness that makes it an approachable alternative to more heavy-set reds from the region.
Estate History: The Manzone family has been cultivating vines in the Monforte d’Alba area of Piedmont since 1925, beginning when Giovanni Manzone purchased the Ciabot del Preve vineyard. Over five generations, the estate has focused on high-altitude sites within the prestigious Castelletto and Gramolere crus, which sit at elevations reaching 450 meters. The name Il Crutin refers to a small, hand-carved stone cellar located on the Gramolere hill, a property the family acquired in 2001. Today, Giovanni’s children, Mauro and Mirella, manage the winery with a commitment to sustainable farming and minimal intervention, utilizing spontaneous fermentation and avoiding filtration to preserve the natural character of their unique terroir.
