Tasting Notes: The J.Hofstatter Pinot Nero Meczan is an alpine expression of Pinot Noir at its most refined — silky and perfumed, with aromas of dried cherry, dried rose, and a whisper of forest floor and spice. On the palate it is light-bodied and precise, with a cool minerality running through to a long, elegant finish that speaks clearly of its mountain origins.
Estate History: J.Hofstatter is one of Alto Adige's most distinguished estates, founded in 1907 in Tramin on the Weinstrasse. Under the direction of the Foradori-Hofstätter family, the estate has long been a reference point for the region's best indigenous and international varieties. Their Meczan Pinot Nero is sourced from the celebrated vineyards of Mazon — a plateau near Bolzano renowned for producing some of Italy's finest Pinot Noir, where the combination of altitude, diurnal temperature swings, and glacial soils yields wines of uncommon finesse.
