Tasting Notes: The Guastaferro Taurasi Primum 2010 is made with 100% of the old vines making it rich with scents of stewed cherries and sweet spices.
Estate History: Raffaele Guastaferro has been making Taurasi DOCG wines since 2003 from a two-hectare plot of 200-year-old, pre-phylloxera vines. The fruit from the vineyard Piano d’Angelo, was sold to other winemakers before 2003 and was the source of Mastrobeardino's famed 1968 Taurasi Piano d’Angelo. Raffaele understood the incredible value and rarity of these vines and began his own family label. These vines were planted using a very old technique of intertwining multiple shoots to form a massive 10-foot-tall pergola, looking more like a grove of trees than a vineyard. The incredible vine age adds a soft, pliant richness and complexity not often found in Aglianico based wines.
