Tasting Notes: This vibrant red from the volcanic soils of Mount Etna delivers a complex profile of tart red fruits, specifically cherry and wild plum, layered over earthy foundations of leather and potting soil. The palate is defined by its remarkable freshness and high energy, offering a medium-bodied structure with fine-grained tannins that provide an elegant, lingering finish. Subtle floral undertones and a distinct mineral streak reflect its low-intervention vinification, resulting in a wine that is both rustic and polished.
Estate History: Giuseppe Lazzaro established his eponymous project after a formative tenure as the cellar master for the legendary Etna producer Frank Cornelissen. Drawing on this experience, Lazzaro manages high-altitude vineyards featuring vines ranging from 40 to 90 years old, cultivated with a deep commitment to organic and biodynamic principles. His approach is highly artisanal, utilizing honeybee propolis from his own hives as a natural vineyard treatment and maintaining a minimal-intervention philosophy in the cellar. The estate is characterized by its small-scale production, often yielding fewer than 2,000 bottles per vintage, which emphasizes a pure and uncompromising expression of Sicilian terroir.
