Tasting Notes: This white wine offers fresh citrus aromatics led by Meyer lemon, Buddha’s hand, and bergamot, evolving into a distinct saline finish. It possesses a medium body with a notable pithiness and bright vivacity derived from its volcanic origins. Primarily a blend of Carricante and Catarratto, with additions of Minella Bianco, Inzolia, and Grecanico, the palate is both delicate and decisive. A week of skin maceration contributes to its unique texture and depth without overshadowing the fruit.
Estate History: Giuseppe Lazzaro, a native of Mount Etna’s eastern slopes, established his eponymous winery in 2020 after spending two decades as the cellar master for the renowned producer Frank Cornelissen. He manages 4.5 hectares of micro-parcels spread across the northern, southern, and eastern faces of the volcano, with vines ranging from 40 to 90 years old. Lazzaro emphasizes biodiversity and traditional manual farming, often integrating propolis from his own bees as a natural vineyard treatment. His work focuses on preserving historical Etna varieties and expressing the diverse volcanic terroir of his homeland.
