Tasting Notes: This vibrant red offers a concentrated profile of tangy black cherry and wild raspberry, balanced by savory herbal undertones and a hint of crushed peppercorn. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied and bright, characterized by a zippy energy and soft, integrated tannins that lead into a clean, juicy finish. Floral aromas of violet and dark blossoms linger on the nose, showcasing the purity of the fruit and the distinct minerality of the clay-heavy soils.
Estate History: Located in Chiusi, in the southeastern reaches of Tuscany, Ficomontanino is led by Maria Sole Giannelli, who took over her family’s land in 2014. The estate was originally purchased by her grandfather, Alessandro, in the 1960s, but it was Maria Sole who transitioned the property toward natural viticulture and focused on highlighting the unique terroir near the Umbrian border. By utilizing cement tanks for aging and following minimal intervention practices, she has revitalized the farm’s legacy to produce wines that emphasize the wildness and elegance of indigenous Tuscan varieties.
