Tasting Notes: "Outside" is 100% Nebbiolo made just beyond the official Barolo boundaries, close enough to follow the style but technically outside the denomination. It’s a bold, thought-provoking wine that reflects how climate change and shifting tastes are reshaping winemaking. Named for its location just outside Barolo, it’s aged for 30 months (18 in oak), nearly meeting Barolo’s aging standards. Darker red and black berry tones, tobacco and hints of forest floor. This Nebbiolo based wine is already very drinkable, with the structure to age beautifully.
Estate History: Alessandro’s “Drink Wines Not Labels” project is back for its second release, and it’s as unapologetic and honest as ever. Working just east of Serralunga, Alessandro farms entirely by hand and with natural methods. The idea began in 2019 with fruit from his uncle’s vineyards in Montelupo Albese, grapes considered “un-prestigious” because they fell outside the Barolo zone. That “rejection” inspired Outside, a wine (and philosophy) that champions what's inside the bottle, not the label it wears.
