Tasting Notes: The 2021 Vigna La Casaccia is a profound expression of Montalcino terroir, opening with an exotic bouquet of spiced orange peel, cedar dust, and dried strawberries layered over deeper notes of balsamic and licorice root. On the palate, the wine is remarkably energetic and fleshy, delivering a core of ripe wild berries and tart blackberry balanced by a distinct mineral tension. Estate History: Canalicchio di Sopra was founded in 1962 by Primo Pacenti, a pioneer who helped establish the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG and was a founding member of the local Consorzio. Located in the cooler, clay-rich northern sector of the region, the estate has grown from its original five hectares to approximately sixty hectares today, with twenty dedicated to vines. Now managed by the third generation of the Francesco Ripaccioli family, the winery is celebrated for its commitment to traditional methods, such as long aging in Slavonian oak casks, and its focus on site-specific bottlings that highlight the unique magnesium-rich soils of the Canalicchio and Montosoli crus.
