Tasting Notes: The Barberani Lago di Corbara Villa Monticelli shows a fully resolved, complex, yet lively palate. Cherries and herbs on the savory nose lead into a palate with great mineral presence to balance the ripe wild berry, spice, and dried herbal flavors. Acidity adds to the length on the finish. While this red from Umbria would drink well against any Super Tuscan it also beautifully reflects the unique terroir of Umbria.
Estate History: Luigi and Giovanna Barberani began making wine in 1961 near Lake Corbara in Umbria. Now in the capable hands of Luigi’s son Niccolò are 55 hectares of organic vineyards producing a range of unique, classic, and unmatched Umbrian wines. Fully organic since the 1980’s, long before it was fashionable, Barberani has always sought out a unique approach to making wine.
