Tasting Notes: Gaetano’s Rosso di Montalcino expresses the influence of his location in Montalcino where “Galestro”, a stony clay type of soil is commonly found. The estates position west-facing to the Tyrrhenian Sea also allows for certain characteristics to take hold. It drinks with an upfront note of bright cherries and smaller darker berries while still being lifted by notes of clean earth, herbs and hints of saline laced within the finish.
Estate History: In 1985, in Montalcino Gaetano Salvioni, freshly graduated from the university of Florence for Fine Arts, and his wife acquired a parcel of land thought to be barren and planted Sangiovese vines - Albatreti. Gaetano’s upbringing was greatly influenced by winemaking as his parents were viticulturists, and are related to Giulio Slavioni, another notable producer from Montalcino. Known for its tiny production quantities and great quality wines using only 4.5 hectares of Sangiovese vines, Albatreti is named after a woodland plant that once found throughout the estate, “albatro” which is closely related to the strawberry tree.
