Tasting Notes: Fermentation for the Fabio Zambolin Costa della Sesia Nebbiolo Vallelonga takes place in stainless steel for over three weeks, followed by aging in old 225 liter barrels for thirteen months. The fermentation is spontaneous and the use of sulfites is kept to a minimum. The vines for Vallelong are mixed of young and old, with the average being close to twenty-five years. The result is a Nebbiolo filled with aromas of tobacco, dried roses, and tomato leaf that is reflective in the palate but also laced with notes of wild strawberries, and ripe cherry. The wines of Lessona are known from their mineral edge and luminous acidity and in 2019, a true collectors vintage, the wines show a more ready to drink and supple feel on the palate..

Estate History: Fabio Zambolin began his career after inheriting the vineyard of his grandparents and transformed their old garage into his winery. It all began in 2010 with a single parcel that he worked organically. This land sits within the DOC appellation of Lessona however, the cantina is just ten meters outside of the DOC zone (right next to the vineyards) and an archaic law enforce his label to be under Costa della Sesia, a generic term for regional Northern Piedmont wines in this area. Fabio is also recognized for his work in the vineyards of Le Pianelle winery where he worked alongside famed winegrower Cristiano Garella.
